Empathy, intent, give and take, the trust of one's intuition, the feeling of knowing each other forever, total surrender to the will of the music and telepathy: these are some of the main ingredients of a truly great musical union and they are just some of the qualities of my band mates Aimee Sullivan, soprano and alto sax, Mike Holstein, bass and Sonny Thornton, drums. It's an honor and thrill to have such beautiful musicians to perform with.
This group has been together since early 2003 and has performed at Addy's and South City Grill in Greenville as well as concerts at the YMI Cultural Center and the Jazz Composers Forum in Asheville. We have performed with Sharon LaMotte , vocalist at Barley's in Asheville and at the Handlebar in Greenville and on Main St Jazz in Greenville , and at the Association of Independent Restaurant owners : AIR's first Annual Taste of Asheville and weekly at The Café on the Square.
Every performance with the quartet is a unique experience. Because of the organic nature of the group, no two concerts are alike. The music is at once strong and fragile, filled with energy and relaxed, striving to communicate and press the boundaries of our own abilities to express ourselves.
Jimmy Woode once told me there are two kinds of musicians: those who play music and those who make music. I hope you will enjoy listening to us make music.
