THE JAZZ VOCAL WORKSHOP

An ongoing learning experience with working jazz musicians. Singers participate in group and individual work which encompasses a large variety of styles using the language of  jazz  and improvisation. A supportive and safe environment is maintained as we study together. We work on performance, repertoire, mic handling, keys, charts and theory, working with an ensemble, talking down the tune and how to get along on stage while taking creative risks. The practice approach we use is similar to the style of Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton - we work on building vocabulary by learning blues heads and bebop tunes. By coming regularly you will expand your knowledge of the Language of Jazz Music and Performance.  You will also have an opportunity to perform when ready at Tressa's on Mondays as part of honing your skills in a safe and supportive setting. The Jazz Vocal Workshop is held at Call that Jazz Studio at 20 Pinecroft Road in North Asheville – 28804.
